Problem related to installation of Windows XP?

I can't see why you can't boot from cd and start again and do a fresh install, with reformat? IT's unfortunate but it happens. Turn off the system and try again, that all you can do. If you have support disc for motherboard install chipset and check for BIOS updates. My only other suggestion is something got fried? I hope not.
