Why is this cat following me?

It is probably just a friendly well socialized cat that wants to get to know you. It's "talking to you", following you, and even leaving you gifts. Why not accept this cat's gift of friendship by sitting down on the ground and giving it a friendly scratch on the neck? Of all the many barn cats I've met, the most outgoing and friendly seem to be the big ginger males.
